The web can sometimes seem like a rude, vacuous and frustrating place to hang
out. But then, almost as often, good things happen that restore my utopian (Logan's
Run kind of utopia) idea of the web. Here are a few of my recent reasons to be
thankful for the web:
- A few months ago I was approached by French punk band called The
Bushmen, who wanted to use one of my
photos as the cover of their
new CD. I think they've used a couple of my other shots on the inside cover
and a copy is winging it's way to me very soon. This is my first publication
of any kind and, even though I didn't seek out this opportunity, I'm
very excited to see the CD in the flesh. This kind of happenstance could
only happen because of the internet.
- Looking at my server stats I saw a little spike from Photo
Friday last
weekend. When I investigated I found I'd got a noteworthy
for a recent entry . It's been almost two years since my last
(and first) noteworthy so I was very pleased to pick up my second. I
get quite a few visitors as a result of entering Photo Friday, people who
would never see my photos otherwise.
- Sunday was World
Pinhole Day and I got to hangout with photographers from
the Bay Area Photobloggers and Flickr who
I would never have met had it not been for the net. If it wasn't for the
web I would not have participated or spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon in
the company of fellow photo nuts.
