Pet Photoblog Peeve (PPP) #1 - photoblogs whose design restricts
their owner to posting images only in landscape format. Maybe this isn't a
technology limitation. Maybe the photographer never turns their camera 90 degrees
to the portrait format. Whatever the reason, as a photographer who produces
landscape to portrait shots in an almost equal ratio, it always feels like
an artificial limitation to me. I feel like I'm only seeing half of the photographer's
potential or that they're restricting themselves to the landscape format in
a contrived way.
And why is it that these sites are always stuck in landscape? I've never seen
a true photoblog restricted to portrait format pictures but I stand to be corrected.
I know the argument could be that the majority of visitors will be using a
screen that is, itself, stuck in landscape but, by that argument most books
and magazine would show nothing but portrait format shots, so I just don't
buy it.
