If I'm not totally convinced by the next 3 pictures why am I posting them
here? They were all taken in low, artificial light resulting in my camera struggling
to get something hand-held and useable at f2, 1/30. The results are way too
noisy and lack the DOF my digicam usually provides in more reasonable light.
I post them only because they illustrate my current, ridiculous visual obsession;
door furniture and handles at the modern campus where I work.
I know it's a silly thing to get excited about but I suddenly noticed these
handles that I've been using for the past decade. They're shiny chrome, some
worn through to the brass, modern and utilitarian in design. They're set on
white, laminated doors. My little experience already shows that they're
a little tricky to shoot. Especially the ones that really catch my eye; they're
the ones in the office interior, far away from windows and natural light. Instead
they're dimly lit via halogen and florescent lights from above creating weak
but visually exciting 'J' shadows.
The door furniture in our offices doesn't vary much from door to door, or
even from building to building, and the lighting doesn't change much from one
place to another but it is the subtle differences that catch my attention for
the moment. By next week I'll probably have run out of enthusiasm and will
think office door handles are as pathetic a choice of photographic subject
as you do. Until then you find me getting weird looks from my work mates when
they catch me trying to sneak a shot of another door while no one is around. |
